History
The school was established on the auspicious day of Basant Panchami in February 1869.It started in a residential house belonging to Rai Saheb Lala Chhunna Mal at Bagh Diwar , near Katra Neel in Chandani Chowk with 62 boys and three teachers and Lala Ramjas Rai as the first Headmaster. The aim was to provide education to boys in Sanskrit and English. It was a vision come true for a small group of enlightened and far-sighted philanthropists Lala Rommi Mal ,Rai Saheb Lala Chhunna Mal ,Lala Ram Krishan Das,Rai Bahadur Lala Amba Prasad ,Rai Saheb Lala Ishwari Prasad,Rai Bahadur Lala Sheo Pershad,Rai Bahadur Dharam Sudhakar and Lala Wazir Singh – all residents of Old Delhi.
In 1887,the School was raised to the status of a High School and re-named as Anglo Sanskrit Victoria Jubliee High School in commewanation of the Jubilee of Queen Victoria. With Changing times and trends in education, it became a higher secondary school in 1943 and a senior secondary school in 1979.
In 1916, Rai Bahadur Lala Amba Prasad offered to construct a new building on land measuring 7780 square yards with roads on all the three sides. The School building was built at a cost of Rs. 80,000 provided exclusively by the Rai Bahadur.The School shifted to its own present premises in Daryaganj in November 1920.
In 1928, Lala Hira Lal, a philanthropist of the old city, constructed a boarding house for the school for 105 students at a cost of Rs. 60,000 at 24, Daryaganj, where the present Commercial Senior Secondary School is situated .Later, Lady Shri Ram College also started from the same premises.
In 1939, the School came under unprecedented financial crisis. Sir Shri Ram ,an alumni, came forward and adopted the school .Shri Ram Education Foundation managed the School for 6 decades(1940-2000).
In 2000 Shri Ram Education Foundation, finding itself unable to run the school further transferred the management of the school to another Trust.
At present, the School is managed by Dharampal Satyapal Charitable Trust(R).
